Name the exact equipment
Include the site, room, rack position and device identifier. A photograph or port reference can help when site policy allows it. Avoid instructions such as reboot the main switch when several devices could match that description.
Separate observation from change
State which checks can be performed without approval and which actions need the remote engineer present. Record who authorizes a restart, cable move or replacement, especially in a live environment.
Write the stopping conditions
Tell the technician when to pause: an unexpected device, missing access, a different cable layout or an instruction that does not match the equipment. Include an escalation contact and an agreed communication channel.
Agree on evidence
Specify what the remote team needs to verify completion, such as device labels, connection state or photographs. Respect building rules and avoid capturing credentials, private screens or unrelated customer equipment.
Close the work order
Document the actions performed, the agreed checks and any outstanding items. Keep diagnosis and confirmed observations separate, so the next engineer can understand what actually happened at the site.
